Senior Advisor

Martin Sklenár is a Senior Fellow at GLOBSEC, focused on European security and defence policy issues and transatlantic relations. He is also part of DGA’s network of Senior Advisors. In 2023, Martin served as the Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic in the expert government.
Previously, he worked as the Director General for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic. He was responsible for the development and implementation of defence policy, defence planning, and international cooperation. From 2011 to 2020, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic as Director for Security Policy and was posted to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Washington, DC.
In 2011, he moved to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs from the Ministry of Defence, where he held various positions, including Director for International Relations. The Ministry of Defence sent Martin to Brussels as its representative in the working bodies of the EU Council from 2006 to 2009. In 2010, he participated in the UNMIK operation in Pristina, Kosovo, as a UN volunteer.
