Unpacking the Aviation Impact Accelerator Model
Following on from the Headline Session "Accelerating Sustainable Aviation" moderated by Prof Rob Miller, Director of Whittle Lab, Day 1, 2-3:30 PM, we will unpack the Aviation Impact Accelerator’s (AIA) whole system modelling approach and demonstrate some of the AIA’s interactive tools which have the capability to help the aviation sector, policymakers and the general public understand the path to zero emission aviation.
The Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA), convened by the University of Cambridge and supported by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales’s Sustainable Market’s Initiative, is a multi-disciplinary group of global experts working to accelerate the journey to zero emission aviation by developing evidence-based tools that allow stakeholders to map, understand, and embark on the pathways towards sustainable flight. The approach includes broader ecosystems thinking to drive sustainable change and the AIA’s tools can help aviation companies to accelerate choices around sustainable innovation and technology across the entire supply chain. This provides companies and governments with an improved understanding of how to target research and technology investment, and to understand the true climate impact of their decisions.

International Spaceport Readiness to Support Point-to-Point Space Travel
With the evolution of the commercial space sector, we will likely see dozens of operational spaceports all over the world, just within the next few years. These spaceports have the potential to serve as hubs for space innovation and access to space. For example, vehicles that can provide high-speed, long-distance transportation through space are already under development, but determining how to conduct such operations safely and efficiently remains a challenge. This panel will explore how spaceport operators, regulators, and other government agencies can facilitate this transformation.

Vehicle Operators Pushing High-Speed Point-to-Point Future
Parallel to the emergence of commercial spaceports globally is the development of a new class of high-speed aerospace vehicles that can travel between any two points on Earth within a couple of hours. Although many different design concepts have been proposed, the ability to conduct high-speed, long-distance transportation through space, initially for cargo, but eventually for people, will be a major game-changer, both for national security, and for economic competitiveness. This session will explore current prospects for such systems, and discuss how they could be integrated with the emerging international spaceport network.

CTO - Driving innovation and catalysing action for the future
In June 2019, Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) from seven of the world’s major aviation manufacturers came together as a unified group to express their commitment towards more sustainable aviation.
In October 2021 ADS hosted a further Pre Cop 26 meeting where the CTO’s came together once again to strengthen their shared commitment and emphasize the continued progress towards decarbonizing air transport in order to realise the ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Following the Farnborough Connect meeting of 2021, once again at the centre of the world’s greatest airshow, during the Aerospace Global Forum this July, the CTO’s will meet once again, this time in a new ecosystem, to drive change, by catalysing initiatives that focus on real actions that accelerate the road to NetZero.
